Senior Systems Administrator

Summary:

The senior server administrator’s role is to ensure the stability, security, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems that support core enterprise functions by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the server infrastructure, client/server applications and associated operating systems. This includes configuring/upgrading new/existing server implementations, and evaluation of current processes and procedures for management of server infrastructure. The location for this position is Great Falls or Minneapolis.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in computer/technology or 5+ years’ experience in the IT field
  • Microsoft (MCSA,MCSE) and VMware (VCAP5\6-DCA) Certifications preferred, but not required
  • At least five years’ work experience as a Sr\Systems Administrator
  • Strong understanding of Windows Operating Systems (2008R2, 2012 R2), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Windows 7\10 desktop operating systems
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware, storage hardware and associated network equipment
  • Understanding of Networking technology (routing protocols, Layer 2 switching)
  • Knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, ISCSI, FCoE
  • Strong understanding of server virtualization infrastructure concepts and tools
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Visio
  • Basic knowledge of SQL 2008 R2 – 2012 R2 database administration
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and late nights if needed
  • Ability to work with people from different company responsibility levels and different disciplines with varying degrees of technical expertise
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing with a variety of different audiences
  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple tasks & projects
  • Must be able to move and lift 30-50 pounds occasionally when relocating servers and other equipment.

Duties:

  • Provide timely response to address server and client-server application performance and/or availability issues
  • Adherence to policies, procedures and standards in regards to configuration, management and maintenance of servers
  • Perform periodic preventative maintenance procedures on servers such as service packs, firmware upgrades and hardware upgrades
  • Ensure recovery of data files and server failures through proper backups and effective hardware management
  • Maintain the security, stability reliability and availability of the server infrastructure through diligent server management practices
  • Directly support Davidson business core infrastructure which might include virtual servers, VMware hosts and physical hardware, Storage Array Networks, Network switches and underlying Server Operating systems and applications
  • Directly support D.A. Davidson business life cycle and assets which might include but not limited to patching, imaging, upgrading, deploying, end user training and application\server performance monitoring and capacity planning
  • Recommend, propose and execute additions and/or modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance
  • Collaborate with all IT staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports
  • Lead, coordinate and participate in process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment
  • Participate as team member in storage capacity planning and in the development of long-term goals for enterprise storage
  • In conjunction with business and department priorities and directives, conduct vendor and product research on software and systems products to address business needs
