John Clay receives highest award given to a D. A. Davidson companies employee

John Clay Jr., Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor and Branch Manager for Crowell, Weedon & Co. in Ventura, Calif., has been named the recipient of the 2015 Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award.

The prestigious award is given in recognition of outstanding volunteer efforts and is the highest honor given to an associate of D.A. Davidson Companies, the parent company to Crowell Weedon.

His nominator said that Clay's commitment to volunteerism and social responsibility seems to be matched only by the variety and number of causes in which he gets involved. He demonstrates what seems to be an endless store of energy and enthusiasm for both hands-on work and philanthropy.

Much of Clay’s volunteer work is related to his 13 years with the Rotary Club of Oxnard, where he has served in several leadership roles and earned awards that include the District Service Award for Outstanding Service. While president of the club, he helped create a community garden for Food Share, Ventura County’s food bank. In addition, Clay has coordinated Rotarians at Work Day, which brings in volunteers for Food Share, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. In 2013, Clay was chosen to join a group of Rotarians who traveled to India to provide vaccines for National Polio Immunization Day.

Clay also is involved in a variety of other organizations and plays a leadership role with many. His work ranges from creating Team Maria Clay that has raised a half-million dollars for cancer research to hosting youth art receptions where Ventura County students display their art in the Crowell Weedon office and receive art supplies and funding for art classes. Additionally, he has served on boards of directors for groups that include Goodwill of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, the Camarillo YMCA and the Collins School Alumni Association. He is also active in his church and has led many Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University studies.

The Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award was established in 1995 in memory of three D.A. Davidson Companies executives who died in a 1994 airplane crash. All three were active in community and professional service. The award recognizes and celebrates an associate who is dedicated to the same spirit of outstanding community service. It is awarded during the company's annual shareholder meeting.
