Tom Gibson honored with Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award

Feb 10, 2017 |

Tom Gibson, Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor in Sandpoint, Idaho, has been named the recipient of the Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award. The prestigious award is given in recognition of outstanding volunteer efforts and is the highest honor given to a D.A. Davidson Companies associate.

His nominator said that Gibson has a strong commitment to social responsibility in Sandpoint and beyond. His passion is evident in his volunteer work, which has helped to create positive change in the community.

Particularly meaningful has been Gibson’s work as a founding board member of Community Cancer Services, created by a small group whose mission was to provide support to all local cancer patients, families, and caregivers. CCS has grown to provide many services, including counseling and support groups facilitated by licensed social workers, financial assistance through travel vouchers, and help with medical co-pays and loaned durable goods, among others.

Gibson was a founding board member of the Panhandle Alliance for Education, served on the board for 12 years and continues as an emeritus member. He was instrumental in establishing the PAFE endowment, which totals in excess of $2.3 million dollars and provides some $80,000 annually for educational programs in Bonner County public schools. Since 2003, PAFE has awarded more than $1,000,000 to fund 388 innovative grants to teachers.

As a black belt, Gibson donates his time to instruct students in the study of the martial art of Tang Soo Do, with the goal of helping youth to grow their confidence, discipline, physical abilities and other coping tools. Additionally, as a Rotarian for 22 years, Gibson has been an active member who served as the Sandpoint Rotary Club President and later became a founding member and current member of the Ponderay Rotary Club.

Gibson joined D.A. Davidson in 1994. In 2009, he received one of the company’s other highest honors, the Ian B. Davidson Cultural Excellence Award, which is a peer-driven honor that recognizes leadership, community involvement and outstanding commitment to clients. He is the first D.A. Davidson employee to receive both of the company’s most prestigious awards.

The Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award was established in 1995 in memory of three D.A. Davidson executives who died in the 1994 crash of the company’s airplane. All three were active in community and professional service, and the award recognizes an associate who is dedicated to the same spirit of outstanding community service.
